Officers from the Scarsdale Police Department responded to a Walworth Avenue residence on Saturday night, where there was a report of a local homeowner who alerted police that he was walking in the area of Huntington Avenue and Brewster Road at approximately 6:45 p.m. when he was approached by a large black dog that ran at him and circled around him.
Police said that the dog began biting his hand and jumped on his back, ripping his shirt, at which point, several children who the dog escaped from were able to corral him and get the German Shepherd under control and back in the yard.
The dog’s owner spoke to the victim and gave him a $25 check for the damaged shirt. Once the Walworth Avenue resident arrived home, his wife examined his back and found that he had sustained a laceration, at which point he was treated and the Scarsdale Police Department was notified.
Investigators proceeded to interview the dog’s owner, who stated that the children had accidentally let the family dog out of the house. The woman apologized to officers, who warned her that the dog must be confined for 10 days due to New York State Public Health Law.
